Stargift The book "Reflections on ancient medals and engravings, mostly Roman." Antoine Le Poix, Paris, 1579 The book "Reflections on ancient medals and engravings, mostly Roman." Antoine Le Poix, Paris, 1579 Antoine Le Pois is a naturalist and scholar of Renaissance numismatics. "Reflections on ancient medals and engravings, mostly Roman" is the first and legendary edition by Antoine Le Pois, published after the author's death with his portrait and dedication of the author's brother Nicholas to the Duke of Lorraine, whose personal physician was Antoine. The memorial nature of the publication and the high status of the scientist and his family provided virtually unlimited opportunities for the preparation and printing of the book. 48 engravings made on wooden boards were made especially for the publication. In addition to the portrait of Antoine, individual engravings with images of Mercury, Priapus, Pomon and hermaphrodite, the publication included 23 explanatory engravings in the text, and after the text 20 separate sheets with 160 Roman medals, Gnostic emblems, symbols and monograms were given. This work is one of the key ones in the numismatic science of the Renaissance. Copies with engravings from this period are rarely preserved in complete condition. The Stargift collection presents a fully complete copy in an owner's one-piece leather binding of the XVIII century. The edition from this edition was sold at Christie's auction in 2005 for 16,800 euros.

"The Adventures of Dunno and his Friends" is the first book in Nikolai Nosov's trilogy about the adventures of Dunno, first published in 1953-1954. Nosov's idea of "Dunno" was born under the impression of Anna Khvolson's fairy tale "The Kingdom of the Little Ones", which he read as a child. The name of the main character was also taken from the tale of Khvolson. A separate Russian-language edition of the tale of Dunno was published in 1954 by Detgiz publishing house under the title "The Adventures of Dunno and his Friends" with illustrations by Alexei Laptev. It was Laptev who created the familiar image of Dunno, which other artists began to use after that.

Stargift Stephen King's book "Dolores Claiborne" special edition for critics in 1992. Stephen King's book "Dolores Claiborne" special edition for critics in 1992. "The worst advice I've been given," King wrote, "is 'Don't listen to the critics.' In my opinion, it is necessary to listen to the opinion of critics: sometimes they point out mistakes that it is not too late to correct. Burying your head in the sand, you deprive yourself of the opportunity to find out someone else's opinion and you may not understand when you need to change something. But if you listen to criticism, you can notice your shortcomings and correct them in time." The book "Dolores Claiborne" was dedicated to his mother, Nellie Ruth Pillsbury-King. It was this novel that in 1992 took the first place in the bestseller list according to Publishers Weekly.

Stargift The book "Lolita" By Nabokov V. In English The book "Lolita" By Nabokov V. In English Nabokov V.V., Paris, 1955 [First Edition] Nabokov, V. Lolita. [In English] In 2 vols. t. 1-2. Paris: Olympia press, 1955. Vol. 1: 224 p. t. 2: 10, 13-190 p. 18×11 cm. In two publishing covers. In collectible preservation. American publishers rejected the manuscript of the novel one by one. One of them, worried about the possible consequences for publishers and for the author, suggested publishing the novel in Paris. The novel was first published in France by the Olympia Press publishing house, which, as Nabokov realized after publication, produced "semi-pornographic" and related literature. A year later, Lolita was banned in France (1956-1958, and the publication was withdrawn from sale and destroyed). The U.S. Customs Department, on the contrary, established in February 1957 that the book was not objectionable and could be imported into the country. Thus, the book could not be legally exported from France, but those who managed to smuggle it could legally import it into the United States. Nabokov himself recalled: "The first edition with copious typos, published in two volumes in Paris (Olympia Press, 1955), was bought rather sluggishly by American tourists until it caught the eye of Graham Greene, who praised the book in a London newspaper. He and Lolita were attacked in another London newspaper by a reactionary feuilletonist, one John Gordon, and his virtuous horror attracted everyone's attention to Lolita..."

Stargift A gift book with a handwritten wish and autograph by Alexander Solzhenitsyn A gift book with a handwritten wish and autograph by Alexander Solzhenitsyn On the title page - "Lyudmila Timofeevna Semak in good memory, sincerely /autograph/ Moscow. 13.11.94". Alexander Solzhenitsyn is a Russian writer, playwright, essayist, poet, public and political figure who lived and worked in the USSR, Switzerland, the USA and Russia. The life of Alexander Solzhenitsyn turned out to be connected with almost all the turning events in the history of Russia. He was born in the year of the outbreak of the Civil War, never saw his father who died before his birth, survived collectivization with his mother, during the Great Patriotic War he tried for a long time to be sent to the front and finally left to fight in 1943. In February 1945, he, the commander of an artillery intelligence unit, was arrested right at the headquarters on the front line, sent to Moscow to Lubyanka and soon sentenced to eight years in camps - on charges of espionage and anti-Soviet activities. After being released (and simultaneously managing to recover from cancer), Solzhenitsyn achieved rehabilitation and in the early 60s was even approved by the authorities: with Khrushchev's permission, "One Day of Ivan Denisovich" was published in Novy Mir, which immediately made the writer famous. The idea to write a narrative about camp life arose from the author in the 50th year in the Ekibastuz camp, where he served his prison sentence. It was a cold winter day. Solzhenitsyn and his partner were carrying a heavy stretcher. These endless camp days were so much alike. They passed into weeks, months, and years. Thanks to this, the author came up with the idea to write the story of an ordinary prisoner and put it in one day. Since the second half of the 60s, the work has been banned in the Soviet Union and withdrawn from libraries. And only in 1990 it was published again in the writer's homeland.

From small articles devoted to the most significant, interesting and vivid events of a particular year, the author manages to assemble a large-scale picture of Soviet, post-Soviet and modern history in all its diversity, sometimes cruel and ruthless, sometimes funny and touching. Brilliant discoveries, great victories and deafening defeats, politics and economics, literature and sports, science and fashion - here everything is woven together and forms a complex pattern. Brilliant illustrations, rare photographs, archival materials, but the main thing is, of course, the very "Parthenon" intonation.

Artyom Tarasov is a Soviet and Russian entrepreneur, considered to be the first Soviet entrepreneur who legally became a millionaire. In 1993, Artyom Tarasov invented the famous lottery "Russian Lotto". The resolution on granting a license to launch the lottery was signed by Yuri Luzhkov. Part of the profit was supposed to go to the budget of Moscow. Tarasov calculated that he would need $2.5 million to implement the lottery: to create a brand, rent a studio, pay for airtime, print tickets, and a distribution service. He received a loan for this amount from Stolichny Bank for a period of one year. Tarasov and his business partner Malik Saidullaev bought the first copies almost completely, spending more than $200 thousand on it. The purchased tickets were distributed by the employees of the Russian Lotto at the entrances to the subway, offering passers-by to turn on the TV at a certain time and play. Gradually, the popularity of the lottery grew. The third edition has already brought 55 thousand tickets sold. A year later, Tarasov returned the $2.5 million borrowed from the bank, he recalled in his book. In the book "Presidential Control" by academician Anatoly Tarasov, in historical retrospect, taking into account foreign experience, the fundamentals of the theory and practice of legal and organizational support not only for presidential, but also for state control in general are considered. Artyom Tarasov himself was nominated as a candidate for president of the Russian Federation in the 1996 elections, but was not registered by the election commission and did not participate in the elections.

Limited edition. 78 signed book out of 350. Ray Douglas Bradbury is an American writer known for the dystopia "Fahrenheit 451", the cycle of short stories "The Martian Chronicles" and the partially autobiographical novel "Dandelion Wine". The writer became interested in literature at school. He wrote his first works at the age of 12. The first popularity of the author was brought by the "Martian Chronicles", a chain of short stories connected by a common plot, and the novel "Fahrenheit 451", which was published in Playboy magazine, and subsequently filmed. Bradbury has created more than 800 literary works, including several novels and novellas, hundreds of short stories, dozens of plays, a number of articles, notes and poems. His stories have formed the basis for a number of film adaptations, theatrical productions and musical compositions. Bradbury's main achievement is that he managed to arouse readers' interest in the genres of science fiction and fantasy, which before him were on the periphery of modern culture. "I don't think about death, because I will always be here. This box with my films and shelves with my books convince me that I have a hundred or two years left," the writer reasoned about the relationship between time and his work.

Stargift The notebook and convolute of Archimandrite Laurentius Cordet, 1720-1781 The notebook and convolute of Archimandrite Laurentius Cordet, 1720-1781 A notebook and a collection of astronomical publications by Archimandrite Lawrence Kordet (1720-1781) In the XVIII century, there were no ready-made notebooks in our understanding of the word. A wealthy person could afford to order a personal binding, in which, as a rule, he collected interesting fragments of books and blank sheets, which we see in this copy. Luck and rarity is the exact indication of the notebook's ownership. In this case, the owner's entry is made on the pages of the text: "From the books of the Kursk Bogoroditsky Znamensky Monastery of Father Archimandrite Lawrence Kordet." Fragments of various scientific books of astronomical content are woven into the copy, and the owner's records contain information about church laws, state and economic management and are written in different handwriting in Russian, Latin and French. Most of the records were made by Vladyka Lawrence, and after his death, his personal library, along with a notebook, most likely passed to the next abbot, and he continued writing. Archimandrite Lawrence was an outstanding church speaker. Among the papers left after his death were several volumes of handwritten sermons, between them two volumes of words and teachings compiled by students when he was rector of the Kharkov Collegium (proto-seminary). As a very educated man for his time and interested in secular literature, Archimandrite Lawrence took a lively part in the work on compiling a geographical dictionary undertaken by the Free Russian Assembly at the Imperial Moscow University; for his works he was elected a member of the Free Economic Society.

Bronnikov notes very interesting details of the interpretation of the meanings of various symbols depicted by prisoners on tattoos. For example, the "ring" on the index finger means: "Don't trust anyone but yourself"; ;skull and crossbones, pistol, knife and the letter "K" denote the killer. If the abbreviation "Elephant" is stuffed on the criminal's right leg, it means "From an early age, Only Misfortunes," etc. The collection of M.G. Nikonorov includes about 3,000 words and various expressions, mostly from thieves' jargon. The author gives examples of words used with a subsequent explanation of the meaning: "... A bastard is a bad person. Padlo batistovoe is a very bad person...".

Stargift The book "Visual electrotechnical task book" in 2 parts. Alexandrov V.A., Moscow The book "Visual electrotechnical task book" in 2 parts. Alexandrov V.A., Moscow The book "Visual electrotechnical task book" in 2 parts. Alexandrov V.A., Moscow The Stargift collection contains a rare pre-revolutionary publication on applied electrical engineering. The task book was intended for obtaining electrical engineering skills. Valentin Alexandrov is an engineer, the first popularizer of electrical knowledge among the masses. At the beginning of the 20th century, Alexandrov wrote a large number of educational books for electricians. All his manuals and reference books had a practical bias. It is noteworthy that during the period of the publication of the task book (1910s) in Russia, the training of electrical engineers was started. In many ways, it was thanks to Valentin Alexandrov that the foundation of the national school of technical electrical engineering was laid. The publication consists of two parts: 1. Direct current and general laws of electrical engineering 2. Alternating current The first part of the publication includes tasks on direct current and general laws of electrical engineering. The second part is designed to solve problems related to alternating current. It examines the basic properties of alternating current, single-phase and three-phase current, and ways to obtain it. A table of sines and cosines is provided. Another feature of the task book is that each page has an appropriate place on the back for solving problems. In addition, each chapter is preceded by the necessary information and formulas.
