Nikolai Rubakin is a Russian bibliographer, book scholar, science popularizer and writer. Having acted as a public figure, he greatly contributed to the education of the working population of Russia, wrote and published a large number of popular books on various issues of natural science, journalistic writings, historical and adventure novels. He developed the theory of self-education and compiled one of the first systematic manuals on publishing and librarianship in Russia.
