Alexander Vasilevsky was a Soviet commander, Marshal of the Soviet Union (1943), Chief of the General Staff, member of the Headquarters of the Supreme High Command, Commander—in-Chief of the Command of Soviet Troops in the Far East, Minister of the Armed Forces of the USSR and Minister of War of the USSR. Member of the Central Committee of the CPSU (1952 — 1961).
During the Great Patriotic War, as Chief of the General Staff (1942-1945), he took an active part in the development and implementation of almost all major operations on the Soviet-German front.
From February 20 to April 26, 1945, he commanded the 3rd Belorussian Front of the Red Army of the USSR Armed Forces, led the assault on the city and fortress of Konigsberg (April 6-9, 1945).
In the second half of 1945, he was the commander-in-chief of the Soviet forces in the Far East during the war with Japan. One of the greatest commanders of the Second World War. The only military commander who did not formally suffer a single defeat in the Great Patriotic War.
The collection includes the book "The Whole Life's Work" with an appeal by Alexander Vasilevsky to the historian Anatoly Ponomarev.
Anatoly Ponomarev is a Doctor of Historical Sciences, the author of about 250 scientific publications. Among his other works is the book "Moscow through the eyes of an eyewitness. 1930 — 2005".
