About this product Art.: 258-2754
Georgy Lukomsky is a Russian artist, art and architecture historian, popularizer of St. Petersburg and regional local history, and art critic. Russian Russian made a huge contribution to the popularization of Russian art abroad, being a member of the Parisian Art World group and the main inspirer of the exhibition of Russian artists in the gallery "la Boétie". After the February Revolution, he was a member of the "Special Council for the Arts," describing the values of the royal palaces for the organization of museums in them.

The book tells about the turning point of innovation, displacing the familiar, cozy and traditional from all spheres of human life. Georgy Lukomsky, being a supporter of classical antiquity and Russian heritage, recreates the image of the lost Petersburg on the pages of his works. Many of the architectural ensembles and views described in the book have long and irretrievably disappeared from the streets of St. Petersburg, having been destroyed due to repairs, alterations, fires and military operations.

This edition will introduce you to the image of a city untouched by time, its legendary monuments, buildings, streets and small details of cultural life that inspired Russian classics to glorify St. Petersburg in their works.

The most revealing and beautiful details of old Petersburg and authentic relics of ancient architecture can also be seen in the author's photographs, which are richly illustrated in the book.

The reader will be able to see both capital buildings and "beautiful little things" — wrought-iron fences and fountains, monuments and statues, original balconies, bridges and gazebos, as well as little-known, remote corners of the city that preserve the stamp of antiquity. The content of the book is imbued with creativity and author's love, fully revealing the mysterious soul of St. Petersburg.

The author's artistic legacy is also of particular interest: As a watercolor painter, Georgy Lukomsky successfully held solo exhibitions in Paris and London. Currently, Lukomsky's work is represented at auctions and in many museum collections, including the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Luxembourg Museum, the Museum of Art in Paris and the National Gallery of Ancient Art in Rome.
