Yevgeny Yevtushenko is a Soviet and Russian poet. He also gained fame as a novelist, director, screenwriter, publicist, reader-speaker and actor. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Yevtushenko's literary style and manner provided an extensive field of activity for criticism. He was often accused of pretentious rhetoric and hidden self-praise.
Yevtushenko was a great connoisseur of art. He opened a museum-gallery in Peredelkin, Moscow region, to coincide with his birthday on July 18, 2010. The museum features a personal collection of paintings donated to Yevtushenko by famous artists such as Chagall and Picasso. There is a rare painting by Ernst, one of the founders of surrealism.
