The text of the wish:
"Dear Zoe
I wish us both more often
Meet in real life,
And they are talented in their work
People should see each other often!
With love, Eldar
Ryazanov"
Eldar Ryazanov is one of the most famous directors of Soviet cinema, who left behind a huge creative legacy. He became famous for his unforgettable comedies — "The Irony of Fate, or With a light steam", "Carnival Night", "Office Romance", "Garage" and many others.
"Masters of Soviet Cinema" is a series of books dedicated to famous theater and film artists, outstanding theater and film directors. The publication "Eldar Ryazanov. The collection" is a collection of his scripts, novels, as well as articles by famous Soviet film critics about the director's works.
Most likely, the wish was addressed to Zoya Fomina, a documentary filmmaker and Eldar Ryazanov's first wife. Their relationship was built on mutual respect, and life consisted not only of love, but also of friendship and common work. Eldar Ryazanov considered his wife his best adviser and the most objective critic. Zoya was not inclined to just praise or baselessly scold him. She could scrupulously analyze his next documentary film frame by frame, suggesting original directorial moves and solutions.
By 1970, Ryazanov had met his new love — he could not and did not want to deceive a dear person. They made a difficult decision for both of them and divorced in the mid-1970s, managing to preserve the most important thing: mutual respect and friendly relations.
The wish was left when both directors were already divorced, but they continued to maintain a warm relationship until the end of their lives.
