The collection of Shakespeare's works edited by S. A. Vengerov, with drawings in the text and numerous paintings on separate sheets, was published in 1902-1904 by Brockhaus and Efron.
A significant part of Shakespeare's plays has long been available in Russian in the transmission of many talented translators, this edition includes translations by P. I. Weinberg, P. P. Gnedich, Apollon Grigoriev, A.V. Druzhinin, P. P. Kozlov, A. I. Kroneberg, Vsevolod Miller, Fyodor Miller and A. L. Sokolovsky.
Sonnets and poems are given almost entirely in a new translation, in which K. D. Balmont, P. I. Weinberg, V. S. Likhachev, M. N. Minsky and others take part. Each play is provided with historical and critical prefaces and (at the end of the volumes) historical and literary notes.
