Francesco Petrarch is a great Italian poet and thinker of the Renaissance. Sonnets dedicated to his beloved Laura brought him worldwide fame. It is still unknown whether she existed in reality, or whether this is a figment of the poet's imagination, a collective image of all that is beautiful in a woman, his muse.
The book "Sonnets about a Beautiful Lady" by Francesco Petrarch includes sonnets and canzones from the "Book of Songs", which we offer to the reader, is a confession of the poet, in which the utmost openness and the most subtle lyricism give rise to an intensity of feeling that European poetry has not yet known. "Each of his sonnets," wrote the translator of the sonnets M. Gershenzon, "is a complete image of one barely perceptible movement of the soul from the continuous stream of many of the same that made up... the story of his love for Laura; it's like instant photographs of his heart."
Francesco Petrarch was and remains one of the most translated authors in our national literature.
Here is a collection of sonnets about a Beautiful Lady, translated from Italian and compiled into a book in 1915 by Vyacheslav Ivanov (1866-1949). As well as Petrarch's "Autobiographical Prose", translated from Latin by Mikhail Gershenson (1869-1925).
