Aesop, an ancient Greek fabulist who lived in the VI century BC, is considered the "inventor" or canonizer of the fable genre. In his works, he was able to skillfully combine an understandable, concise, entertaining plot with a thought-provoking morality. Aesop is credited with the plots of all the fables known in antiquity, which were later used by many of his followers: from Phaedrus and Babrius to La Fontaine, Lessing and I.A. Krylov.
