Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was an internationally renowned Danish classical writer, poet, novelist, playwright, author of travel essays and memoirs. However, the main thing in his work were and remain to this day fairy tales and stories, or rather collections of fairy tales and stories, in each of which individual works are connected by the unity of ideological and artistic content: "Fairy Tales told to children" (1835-1837), "New Fairy Tales" (1843-1848), "Stories" (1852-1855), "New fairy tales and stories" (1858-1872). The proposed book includes little-known and unknown Russian fairy tales and stories that remained outside the traditional children's editions of the writer, translated from Danish and commented on by literary critic, philologist and translator Dmitry Kobozev. He also edited several pre-revolutionary translations of the Hansen couple, published here.
