About this product
The two-volume book "Russia. The Country and People" compares favorably with previous publications of this kind by the absence of prejudice inherent in the reports of Western European travelers in our country before. The recent time of positivism in science has required reliable knowledge about the subject, rather than value judgments about it. There is an understanding of the simultaneous existence of different civilizations in our world. The idea of history and progress has become more complicated, as it has ceased to be a directive and one-dimensional process. That's why only the excellent lithographic illustrations of the 19th century remain here in black and white. German writer and publisher Hermann Luxuriously managed to compile a surprisingly fascinating book from texts by various authors, including for modern Russian readers. Because the past does not disappear without a trace, continuing to exist in the memory and collective unconscious of the people, like annual rings in the trunk of a tree, as long as it is able to grow on earth.
