Placido Domingo is a Spanish opera singer and conductor, lyric and dramatic tenor, who has been performing along with tenor parts of the baritone repertoire since 2009. In more than half a century of his career on stage in different countries of the world, Domingo has performed 150 leading opera roles, more than any other opera singer. Domingo spent more than 300 evenings in the orchestra pit or at the conductor's desk.
A record of the concert of the "Three Tenors" is presented. The cycle appeared after the joint performance of the singers (Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti) in Rome in 1990 at the closing of the World Cup. The concert was originally intended to raise funds for the leukemia foundation founded by Carreras. 800 million viewers were able to watch this performance firsthand, which was broadcast live. The concert went down in the history of classical music as the largest event covered by the media.
Placido Domingo opened the concert with the famous aria "E lucevan le stelle" from the opera Tosca. Pavarotti then performed the aria "Nessun dorma" from the opera Turandot. In turn, Carreras spoke with inimitable enthusiasm and fervor. Conductor Zubin Mehta directed the orchestra of the Florentine Musical May Festival. The recording of this debut concert became the best-selling classical album of all time and led to additional performances and live albums.
In 1996-1997, the Three Tenors made a world tour, performing in stadiums or large arenas.
