Decryption of the document:
"To the First Secretary of the MGK of the CPSU, A MEMBER of the POLITBURO of the Central Committee of the CPSU
Comrade Grishin V. V.
Dear Viktor Vasilyevich!
We ask you to cancel the demolition of the monument of culture of national significance, house No. 11 on Kalinin Avenue, scheduled for May 20th, 1983, where the great Russian composer S. V. Rachmaninov lived for several years. The world-famous "Elegiac Trio" dedicated to the memory of P. I. Tchaikovsky and a number of other works were created in this house. The Rachmaninov house does not interfere with the newly erected administrative building, but the insignificant space between them will not allow moving the old house or recreating it from new materials.
The demolition of this monument will lead not only to the distortion of the preserved old part of Kalinin Avenue, but also to the subsequent dismantling of the cinema "Khudozhestvenny" (built by the outstanding Russian Soviet architect, academician of architecture F. O. Shekhtel, whose 125th anniversary will be celebrated in 1984), as well as the pavilion of the Arbatskaya metro station.
Over the past few years, buildings associated with the names of P. I. Tchaikovsky, F. Liszt, G. Berlioz, R. Wagner, I. Vitali, as well as architectural and cultural monuments of the 17th and 19th centuries have been lost in the territory adjacent to the Kremlin. I want to believe that the Rachmaninov house will not suffer their fate."
