Fedoskino
"Fedoskino" is a picturesque chronicle of Russian craft, embodied in every casket that the master's hand touches. Since 1795, for more than two centuries, the Fedoskino factory has not only been creating products, it is creating a story in which every stroke of the brush, every layer of varnish, every shiny gold and silver particle comes to life on miniature canvases, reflecting the greatness and soul of Russia.
The secrets of creating papier-mache, passed down from master to master, have not changed, remaining true to the traditions and spirit of the past.
This amazing immutability of technology has become the basis for the success and durability of each product. Each casket passes through dozens of hands, taking shape before it becomes an object of art — a masterpiece polished to a mirror shine and coated with up to 30 layers of varnish.
The masters of Fedoskino are outstanding artists, laureates of State prizes, awarded the titles of "National" and "Honored Artist of the Russian Federation". Their work requires tremendous skill, and the process of creating a jewelry box takes from three to six months. In the hands of these masters, scenes depicted with the finest brush come to life, where each hair of the brush serves as a chronicler's pen, capturing scenes of Russian nature, folk festivals, epics and fairy tales.
A distinctive feature of the Fedoskin miniature is realism, achieved through complex multi—layered oil painting. Delicate reflections of gold leaf, silver, and mother-of-pearl are applied to this picturesque base, creating an effect of glow and depth. Each stroke becomes part of a majestic composition that comes to life in smooth transitions of light and shadow, emphasizing the finest details.
Having become recognized and in demand over the years, the Fedoskin school is not limited to production, it educates a new generation of craftsmen. In 2019, the Fedoskinsky Institute of Lacquer Miniature Painting was founded on the basis of the art school, where each student learns not only technique, but also art culture, studying the philosophy of the masters of the past. Today, under the protection of the institute, Fedoskino is rediscovering its place among the world's masterpieces of art.
The privatization that took place in 2022 opens a new page in the history of the factory, marking the renaissance. Under the wing of a private shareholder, Fedoskino strives for new heights, preserving traditions and at the same time expanding the boundaries of excellence. The collection of Fedoskino's works is the pride of public and private collections, and among them are unique jewelry boxes that have won records and recognition at international exhibitions.
