In particular, it was Avicenna who first drew attention to the importance of disease prevention, the need for regular physical activity and observance of body cleanliness. He also described about 2500 methods of manufacturing medicines, including from vegetable raw materials; discovered the process of distillation of essential oils. The Canon was translated into Latin and has been preserved to this day.
