Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky's novel Crime and Punishment (1821-1881) became a turning point in the fate of the writer himself and Russian literature in general. In this work, the creative principle of the author, called fantastic realism, was fully manifested. Hidden behind the details of the criminal history and psychological narrative are ideas about the purpose of a person and the possibility of correcting him, restoring him to a new life.

The complexity of the novel's plot and images was felt and embodied in his illustrations by Yuri Solomonovich Gershkovich. He owns several cycles of drawings for the works of F.M. Dostoevsky. "Crime and Punishment" is illustrated by 33 images. The fractured characters, their suffering, falling into the abyss, the discovery of new perspectives, the Petersburg backdrop of action — all this is reflected in stunning illustrations, which themselves are also works of art.
