A historical novel by American writer James Fenimore Cooper, first published in 1826. The whole geography of the novel is authentic. Lake Horikan is now known as Lake George; forts William Henry and Ticonderoga at its southern and northern ends have been preserved to this day; a town with the same name stands on the site of Fort Edwards; a dam was built on the site of Glenn Falls, a bridge over the Hudson River passes over the rock dividing the waterfall, but a cave where they could hide the characters of the novel have been preserved and are now called "Cooper's cave".
