"Ascanio, or the Royal Goldsmith" is a novel by Alexandre Dumas, written based on the memoirs of the Italian sculptor, jeweler, painter, warrior and musician of the Renaissance Benvenuto Cellini. Cellini's autobiography inspired Alexandre Dumas to create a work describing the period of Benvenuto's life in France, in which Dumas's father artfully weaves the love story of Ascanio's apprentice to the daughter of the Parisian prevost, Colombe. The novel was first published in Brussels in 1843.
