The novel "Captain Fracasse" is the most popular historical and adventure work by the French writer Theophile Gautier (1811-1872). This novel has been translated into many languages of the world and has been filmed many times. The adventures of the heroes take place in the time of Louis XIII.
The novel was first published in Paris in 1863 with illustrations by Gustave Dore, which adorn this edition. The text is given in the translation by I. I. Yasinsky.
For the first time, a complete translation of the novel with a preface by Theophile Gautier is reproduced in Russian.
