Plutarch (c. 46-c. 127) was the first in world literature to combine the characterization of an unimaginative hero with a clearly told story of his life, becoming the founder of the genre of artistic biography. The special beauty of his "Comparative Biographies" is given by comparing somewhat similar figures of ancient Greek and Roman history in order to discover similarities and differences in their fate and draw a certain moral lesson from this.
