The famous satirical novel chronicle "The History of a City" by M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin in this edition is illustrated with portraits of the Gloop mayors made by Nikolai Remizov, Alexander Junger, Alexei Radakov and Alexander Yakovlev; for the first time these brilliant drawings were published in 1907 as a separate album.

The publication also includes nineteen tales by Saltykov-Shchedrin, including such famous ones as "The Wise Minnow" and "The Idealist Carp".

The drawings for the fairy tales were made by Eugene Jacques and Boris Pokrovsky.

Boyesen began a large—scale work - the publication of Andersen's fairy tales with new illustrations by Hans Tegner simultaneously in five languages, including Russian. The artist executed 42 large engravings and 189 drawings for this edition. It was recognized all over the world that in the person of Tegner, the famous Danish storyteller for the first time found an equal in talent and imagination of an illustrator. The magnificent book of Andersen's fairy tales with illustrations by G. Tegner, published by A.F. Devrien in 1899, has long been a rarity — it is very difficult to find a copy in perfect preservation. In an effort to present this truly invaluable material in as much detail as possible, we decided to republish it in two books: "The Snow Queen and other Fairy Tales" and "Wild Swans and other Fairy Tales".
