In 1964-1965, William Pokhlebkin voluntarily ate only black bread with a blend of black and green tea for four months. He came to the conclusion that by consuming one and a half kilograms of black bread a day and strong black and green tea brewed with artesian water four times a day for two or three cups without sugar, it is possible to maintain efficiency.
It was during this period that the book "Tea" was written, which was published in 1968. The work was based on a solid foundation, in particular on Pokhlebkin's own tea collection, collected in 1955-1968. Chinese tea experts provided assistance in collecting the collection, samples were also sent from England, the GDR, Germany, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Laos.
