This saint even became a character in a kind of folklore — a lot of folk beliefs are associated with Elijah's Day (August 2); hearing a thunderstorm, the peasants believed that it was his chariot rumbling through the sky and scattering dazzling sparks. Such a special reverence for one of the Old Testament prophets can be explained by the fact that Russia, with its endless fields, is an agricultural and peasant country, and the well—being of the peasant has always depended on the weather.
