Traditionally, Christians in Russia used various folds as amulets. The main types of folds that existed in Russia: body, chest, and chest. All of them could be worthwhile, that is, they were taken on the road (path), on a pilgrimage, on a hike. In the 19th century, metal tricuspid folds often replaced entire iconostases.
Inside the fold is a three-part prayer icon. The central image is the icon of the Kazan Mother of God, especially revered in Russia.
The icon of the Kazan Mother of God is an image of the Most Holy Theotokos and the Savior standing to her left. Christ's right hand is raised in blessing, and the head of the Mother of God is slightly tilted towards Jesus. The miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, which appeared in Kazan in 1579, is one of the most revered icons in the Russian Orthodox Church. Usually it is with this icon that the young are blessed to the crown and it is she who is hung at the cribs. Of the many icons of the Virgin Mary venerated in the Russian Orthodox Church, none is distributed in as many lists as the Kazan one. The first list of the miraculous image revealed in Kazan was made in the very year of the finding of the shrine — in 1579. Currently, the icon is kept in the Epiphany Patriarchal Cathedral in Moscow. The second most important miraculous list from the Kazan Icon has been located in St. Petersburg since 1721.
