He played the next three seasons in France. His club Nice won the French Cup in its first season with Fontaines, and won the championship in 1956. In the same year, he moved to Reims, replacing Raymond Kopa, and scored 121 goals in six seasons. In total, Fontaine scored 165 goals in 200 matches in the major leagues, and won the championship four times - 1956, 1958, 1960, 1962.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Fontaine made his debut for the French national team on December 17, 1953, in a match against Luxembourg (8-0).
