Viktor Tsoi is a phenomenon of Russian rock music. The leader of the rock band Kino, a musician and film actor, he became the idol of the Perestroika generation. The creative legacy that the singer left during his short life was repeatedly rethought by his contemporaries and the next generations of musicians.
In the summer of 1981, Tsoi created a musical group called "Garin and the Hyperboloids" (by analogy with Alexei Tolstoy's fantasy novel "Hyperboloid engineer Garin"). According to the memoirs of guitarist Alexei Rybin, the name was also inspired by the fact that Western rock bands, which the musicians were constantly listening to at that time, often had two or three words in their names. A year later, the group transformed into Kino, the classic line-up of which was formed in 1985.
