The Stargift collection presents a sketch drawing for the famous series of posters "Windows of Satire of Growth" by one of the key figures of Russian culture - Vladimir Mayakovsky.
The famous series of satirical posters "Windows of Satire of Growth", made in an acute and accessible manner, equipped with concise poetic texts, was important in the creative career of the famous poet.
Mayakovsky, in his work "Terrible Laughter", wrote about them as follows: "This is a protocol record of the largest three years of the revolutionary struggle, conveyed by patches of paint and the ringing of slogans. (…) These are telegraphic news, instantly transmitted into a poster, these are decrees, immediately published on ditties, this is a new form, derived directly from life, these are the posters that the Red Army soldiers watched before the battle, going on the attack, going not with prayer, but with the chant of ditties."
To date, the authorship of 440 Mayakovsky texts for GROWTH Windows has been confirmed, and about the same number of drawings.
Mayakovsky was actually the head of a series of posters, so he did not always have the opportunity to carefully edit his drawings and texts, doing a tremendous job every day to find information and topics for posters, which can be used day after day to trace the change of all political events and public problems.
The sketch from the Stargift collection depicts the character of a bourgeois capitalist. This image was developed and took on various incarnations in cartooning throughout the 20th century.
The exhibit is accompanied by an examination of the State Historical Museum
