"The Universe: Astronomy in a generally understandable way" by Max Wilhelm Meyer, German professor of astronomy and founder of the Berlin Urania Scientific Society, is dedicated to astronomy. The book describes the planets of the solar system and the universe, explains eclipses of the sun, moon and northern lights, tells about meteorites and comets, observatories, telescopes and ways to observe the stars.
The text is decorated and complemented by numerous illustrations made by German artists and commissioned by the book publishing association "Enlightenment" in Leipzig.
