St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute, one of the most reputable universities in Russia, known far beyond its borders, was founded at the suggestion of S.Y. Witte in early 1899. Its discovery took place a little later, in 1902. Having emerged on the crest of Russia's economic and cultural successes at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, he himself soon becomes one of the factors for the further successful development of the country. Half a century later, the institute will be evaluated not only as a famous higher education institution, but also as a "major achievement of Russian culture" at the beginning of the XX century. It was taught by scientists of world importance - D.I. Mendeleev, K.P. Boklevsky, A.F. Ioffe, P.L. Kapitsa, and many others. At the beginning of the twentieth century, there was no place in all of Russia where physics was studied from more modern points of view. In 1910, the Polytechnic was named after Peter the Great.
