Sir Alexander Fleming is a British microbiologist. He discovered lysozyme and for the first time isolated penicillin from the mold fungi Penicillium notatum, the first antibiotic in history. Despite his discovery, Fleming was unable to develop methods to produce penicillin in large quantities, and this task was taken over by other scientists, which led to the mass production of antibiotics.
For his discoveries, Fleming received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1945 (together with Ernst Borch and Howard Florey).
It is interesting that the famous scientist left his autograph on the pages of the autograph album. At the beginning and middle of the last century, many people were united by a passion for collecting autographs, for which special albums were even released, on the pages of which celebrities signed. On the back of the torn page is the autograph of Anton Walbrook, an Austrian actor of the mid-20th century. Apparently, the original owner of the album, after signing autographs, left the names of the signatories on the album pages using a typewriter.
