The St. George roller pen is dedicated to the patron saint of the army, the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious. It is based on the image of St. George, sitting on a white horse and striking a serpent with a spear, which symbolized for Christians the victory over the devil, the "ancient serpent." For his miraculous help to people in danger, the Great Martyr George is also called the Victorious.
St. George is revered as the patron saint of Moscow – the image of a horseman trampling a snake with a spear was included in the ancient coat of arms of the city. Saint George the Victorious is also the patron saint of the Russian army. The body of the pen is decorated with an engraved image of a serpent, which, according to legend, was struck by St. George with his spear, and icon slides, with the help of which the ancient icon painter depicted the earth and rocks.
The cap was painted by the masters of the lacquer miniature of the village of Fedoskino near Moscow, famous all over the world for painting black-lacquer papier-mache products.
In the center of the gilded silver belt on the middle part of the handle is engraved an image of the Kremlin Wall with two towers and the coat of arms of the city of Moscow – a horseman piercing a serpent with a spear.
