The casket is made of Karelian birch, as a tribute to the first weapons factories created by the tsar in the Karelian city of Petrozavodsk. This was done in order to satisfy the country's need for combat guns, in connection with the Russian-Swedish war for access to the Baltic Sea.
The General Battle of Poltava became a strategic turning point in the Northern War (1700-1721) in favor of Russia. The "invincible" Swedish army was destroyed precisely with the help of 111 artillery pieces, Russian troops went on the offensive and occupied the Baltic States. That is why the work, which is called the "Poltava Battle", is decorated with an artillery composition. On the lid of the casket there is a gunner and a standard-bearer on the redoubt. The standard-bearer holds a regimental banner in his right hand and indicates the direction of the shot. The guardsman wears a three—cornered felt hat on his head. A scarf is tied around his neck. The fighter is dressed in a red Pushkar kaftan with blue cuffs. Interestingly, buttons were specially sewn on the cuffs of the sleeves of the caftan so that soldiers could not wipe their lips on the sleeve after eating. A doublet was traditionally worn under the caftan. A leather belt with a brass buckle is fixed on top of the caftan. A sword mount and a baguette (bayonet) are attached to the belt. The standard-bearer has a cartridge pouch on his right side, and a sword on his left. The soldier's legs are dressed in culottes (ports) and stockings, tied with a leather strap under the knee. The standard-bearer is shod in blunt-nosed boots with brass buckles. The guardsman wears gloves with bell—shaped gaiters. The gunner's attire is similar, except that in his left hand he holds a fingerpiece — a device with a smoldering rope wick at the end to ignite the charge in the cannon. A three-pounder cannon mounted on a wooden carriage is used as a weapon. The oak carriage is reinforced with iron plates decorated with ornaments.
Inside the casket there are two niches for decks, trimmed with suede. The top of the box is connected to the bottom by four magnets. The casket comes in a gift box.
