Our distant ancestors' worldview was based on fantastic ideas about supernatural kinship between a certain group of people, a clan or a tribe with so-called totems. By itself, the word "totem" literally translates from one of the dialects of the North American Indians as "his kind". It denoted some animal or plant, and sometimes some kind of natural phenomenon or inanimate object. Totemic myths were an integral part of the belonging of all primitive societies, they were tales of fantastic ancestors, whose descendants people considered themselves to be.
