All people on earth love fairy tales and tell them to their children. For thousands of English children, acquaintance with the world of fairy tales began with "Colored Fairy Tales" collected and processed by the Scottish historian and writer Andrew Lang (1844-1912). In just twenty years, he published twelve volumes of fairy tales from different peoples of the world. Each volume is named by the color of the cover: "The Blue Book of Fairy Tales", "The Olive Book of fairy tales", "Purple...". Today we are introducing Russian children to Lang's "Colored Fairy Tales", although some of the plots will certainly be familiar to them. Most of the fairy tales were translated into Russian for the first time specifically for this edition. We publish the fairy tales of G. H. Andersen, S. Perrault and the Brothers Grimm in classical translations familiar to our reader, Russian fairy tales are taken from the collection of A. N. Afanasyev. The book uses illustrations by the famous English artist Henry Justice Ford (1860-1941), created by him specifically for the first edition of fairy tales.
