About this product
There is a flabby fate, and there is a muscular fate — both for people and for books. This fully applies to the novel "Life and Fate" by Vasily Grossman, the seized manuscript of which did not want to disappear into the archives of the KGB. The book has managed to survive the political system of the country in which it was written more than half a century ago. The epic of the decisive turning point in the Great Patriotic War was called by contemporaries the "Soviet" War and peace" for the multifaceted narrative and the author's philosophical and journalistic digressions. The scandalous and controversial equation of German Nazism with Soviet communism as the ideological design of totalitarian states gave it special vitality. However, the truthfulness of the description of the fateful trials befalling the lost peoples remained indisputable. The writer saw a saving way out in the primacy of kindness over the misunderstood "good", in a heroic return to the violated humanity, in the people's will to continue life. For Grossman, "life" and "freedom" are synonymous and inseparable concepts. Otherwise, the ideal concentration camp would have been built long ago.
