Alexander Pushkin worked on this novel for more than seven years. Pushkin called working on it a feat — of all his creative heritage, he characterized only "Boris Godunov" with the same word. Russian Russian life shows the dramatic fate of the representatives of the Russian nobility in the first quarter of the 19th century against a wide background of paintings.
The novel, with the exception of the letters of Tatiana and Onegin and the song of the girls, is written in a special "Oneginsky stanza." Each such stanza consists of 14 lines of iambic tetrameter. The first four lines rhyme crosswise, the lines from the fifth to the eighth are paired, the lines from the ninth to the twelfth are connected by a ring rhyme. The remaining 2 lines of the stanza rhyme with each other.
