The work "The Cliff" was created by M. Y. Lermontov in April 1841. The poem was first published after the tragic death of the poet in the magazine "Otechestvennye Zapiski" (1843).
The late period of Lermontov's work is characterized by an aggravation of the feeling of rejection of the surrounding reality. The immediate reason for this was the poet's harsh poem on Pushkin's death and his subsequent exile to the Caucasus. Almost the entire high society turned against the unheard-of audacity. Lermontov's firm civic position was supported only by a limited circle of close friends.
The first exile lasted only a few months. Lermontov returned to St. Petersburg, inspired by a lot of new impressions. Plunging into the noisy social life, the poet was able to briefly distract himself from his sad reflections.
This edition of the works has earned a reputation as the best in the history of printing execution. The binding, decorated with gold and pancake embossing, a three-sided gold trim and a colored decorative backing give the publication a stylish and respectable look at the same time.
Design:The binding is made of genuine leather. All books have a three-sided gold edging and are placed in a handmade leather case with foil embossed on all sides of the case. The number of foil embossments is up to 9 different colors on the cover and case. The interior design of most books is printed in 5 colors (4 + gold) on each strip.
