About this product
Art. : 155-441

The famous ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu went down in history as the founder of the teachings of Taoism and the author of the treatise “The Book of the Way” (Tao te Ching).
Created more than two thousand years ago, this outstanding monument of Chinese wisdom is still of great importance to the whole world.
To date, it is second only to the Bible in terms of the number of translations into foreign languages. In our edition, the treatise is presented in two translations: by the Japanese scientist D. P. Konissi, made with the help of L. N. Tolstoy in 1894, and the wonderful poet of the Silver Age Konstantin Balmont.
In addition, the collection includes popular studies by Konissi and other authors on the personality and philosophy of Lao Tzu, aphorisms of Chinese sages, as well as sayings of Lao Tzu, translated into Russian by L. N. Tolstoy. For many centuries, the Book of the Way has been teaching people simple truths: to live in modesty, in harmony with the world, without harming anyone and avoiding temptations that are harmful to the fragile human soul.

Confucius (551-479 BC) was an ancient Chinese thinker, historian, philosopher and statesman. His teachings had a profound impact on the life of China and the whole world, becoming the basis of a philosophical system that later became known as "Confucianism". During his lifetime, the teachings of Confucius were not recognized by either the rulers or their subjects. It was only thanks to the efforts of the philosopher's students that his priceless thoughts and judgments were preserved. During his earthly life, Confucius had to go through a lot: he knew both hopes and disappointments, he had to serve at the courts of rulers and feel the need, wandering around the country with the bag of a homeless wanderer. The teachings of Confucius were sometimes praised, then banned, opponents destroyed books with his statements and tried in every possible way to defame his name, but the followers of the philosopher considered him a sage and a great teacher of the people. Nevertheless, the wisdom of Confucius, filled with oriental subtlety and insight, deep irony and sanity, has not lost its relevance for two and a half thousand years.
