The publication includes one hundred and two German folk tales narrated by the famous linguists and folklorists brothers Jacob Grimm (1785-1863) and William Grimm (1786-1859).
All the fairy tales are given in translation by Grigory Nikolaevich Petnikov. At the end of the collection for the fairy tale "The Children of Hamelin" is an arrangement of the legend of the Pied Piper by Prosper Merim, translated from French by Anatoly Vinogradov.
The publication is decorated with magnificent black-and-white and color drawings by the famous British artist Arthur Rackham, who is deservedly considered an outstanding master of the Golden Age of British book illustration.
