About this product
Art.: 155-508

The beginning of the Imperial Hermitage (since 1917 — the State Hermitage) was laid by Catherine II back in 1764. Today it is one of the largest art museums in the world. It is impossible to study his collection in a week. The album gives you the opportunity not only to get acquainted with the main masterpieces of one of the greatest museums in the world, but also to take an excursion into its past. The publication is based on the book "Paintings of the Imperial Hermitage" by the famous art historian Andrei Ivanovich Somov (1830-1909), which has long become a bibliographic rarity. The author, the senior curator of the Hermitage for 22 years, compiled the first Hermitage catalog with comments on paintings and biographies of artists.

The publication also includes amazing watercolor drawings of the middle of the XIX century with views of the interiors of the Winter Palace, the Small and the New Hermitage (many of which have now been lost), made by masters of architectural watercolor E. Gau, L. Premazzi, K. Ukhtomsky.
