The illustrated chronicle covers more than a century from the history of Russian theatrical life. The book consists of four parts, three of which are devoted to the "golden age" in the history of Russian theater - the period from 1824 to 1917. The year 1824 was chosen as the starting date, when an important event took place not only for the theater, but also for the whole of Russia - the Moscow Maly Theater was formed, which became the "second university" for the country. It was then, in the first half of the XIX century, that the national theatrical culture of Russia began to form, which subsequently received international recognition.
