About this product
Art. : 155-523

The book by the Russian writer, journalist, publisher of the newspaper “St. Petersburg Vedomosti” Vasily Avseenko (1842-1913) was released in 1903 for the anniversary of St. Petersburg. The Illustrated History of St. Petersburg will take us through two centuries in the life of the city on the Neva River, from the laying of the first stone to the beginning of the XX century. But Vasily Avseenko's work is not only a historical excursion: the life and customs of the townspeople, holidays, architectural monuments and sights of Northern Palmyra are perfectly described here. In addition, there was a place for bright master portraits of outstanding people whose activities were associated with the city on the Neva River – from emperors and great generals to artists, writers and poets.

The Illustrated History of St. Petersburg has long been a bibliographic rarity.

The new edition is supplemented with Russian and foreign paintings, as well as unique engravings and archival documents.
