The encyclopedia that you are holding in your hands was conceived back in 1996 in the footsteps of the publication "The First Century of Cinema", in which the presence of Russian cinematographers, events and films was necessarily limited to the peaks. To restore justice, work on a similar book on domestic cinema was immediately started. We called our new book "The First Century of our Cinema." By "ours" we mean Russian, Soviet and Russian cinema, which has had to experience the whole drama of the historical redistribution of borders and minds. An attentive reader will notice that our book covers a century plus a decade. And this is also a trace of historical events. We underestimated the difficulties that awaited us. And yet - the book turned out. Bright portraits of talented artists who make up the glory of our cinema are waiting for you. The rhythm of time is transmitted by documents, many of which were previously unavailable. In order for you to feel like a full-fledged moviegoer, we have enlivened the text with a huge amount of photographic material - both ceremonial, and sometimes unexpected, and previously seen only by a select few.
