St. Seraphim (in the world of Prokhor) was born in 1754 in Kursk. At the age of 24, he went to the Sarov monastery, and then retired to the forest, where he led a hermit's life for almost 40 years. In the image, the saint is depicted praying on a stone in front of the icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness". He performed this feat for 1000 days and nights in a row. In 1825, the Mother of God appeared to the saint and commanded him to come out of the gate and receive people in need of help. "Christ is risen, my joy" – with these words the saint greeted every person who came to him, regardless of his age and social status. Saint Seraphim predicted the bloody events after 1917, the persecution of the faith and the subsequent rebirth of Russia. On January 2, the saint passed away during prayer, kneeling before the image of his beloved icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness".
