The icon of the Kazan Mother of God is an image of the Most Holy Theotokos and the Savior standing to her left. Christ's right hand is raised in blessing, and the head of the Mother of God is slightly tilted towards Jesus. The miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, which appeared in Kazan in 1579, is one of the most revered icons in the Russian Orthodox Church. In 1709, Peter the Great and his army prayed in front of the icon of the Kazan Mother of God. Through her intercession, the Kazan Mother of God granted victory in the Battle of Poltava. In 1812, in the Kazan Cathedral, Prince M. Kutuzov tearfully asked the Most Pure Theotokos to save Russia. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God protected Russia from death in the Great Patriotic War. The miraculous icon of the Kazan Mother of God was carried around the besieged Leningrad. The city stood up. Constant services in front of the icon of the Kazan Mother of God were held in Stalingrad.
