St. Daniel of Moscow is the heavenly patron saint of Moscow, the first Grand Duke of Moscow, the youngest son of Alexander Nevsky. Prince Daniel, having acquired possession of a small and meager Moscow land, achieved its prosperity and gathered Russian lands around this previously unsightly territory. His reign was a time of increasing political influence in Moscow and the time of its establishment as a religious center. Daniel Alexandrovich founded the Danilov Monastery in Moscow, which is depicted behind the saint on a porcelain plate, in honor of his patron Daniel Stylites. Throughout his life, the Grand Duke of Moscow set an example of true piety for everyone.
Religious subjects are one of the main lines of Vladimir Bogdanov's creative work. The artist refers to the artistic language of the ancient Russian icon, which is especially clearly read in the symbolic color and expressive lines, referring to the iconographic heritage of the Pskov land. The combination of the tradition of icon painting and porcelain craftsmanship creates amazing works.
