About this product
Art.: 021-1869

The premium candy bowl in the form of a rook of the Russian squad is made of crystal and silver by hand. The bow figure of the rook is made in the form of a carved dragon's head, a traditional way of intimidating enemies. The candy bowl is packed in a gift case.

The rook has an important symbolic significance in Russia, as it made a significant contribution to the unification of Russian lands into a state. A natural feature of Russia in general is the abundance of rivers. This is also due to the nature of the settlement of the Slavs, who lived in impenetrable forest lands and used rivers as roads for communication and trade. But rivers were often difficult to communicate with each other, and ships had to be dragged overland, which led to the fact that large ships were simply not needed. The Byzantine emperor Constantine also wrote about this: "The Slavs do not have large ships, since they go to sea from rivers where large ships cannot be used." It was by this river route "from the Varangians to the Greeks" that Prince Oleg and his retinue passed from Novgorod to Kiev in 882, where the unification of Russia into a single state took place. The rook was successfully used for long-distance sea voyages. Under Prince Igor, Russian squads sailed on more than 500 ships in the Black, Azov and Caspian Seas, dragging ships from the Don to the Volga and back. The lightness, mobility and speed of the Slavic vessels dictated the appropriate tactics at sea. In battle, the Slavs sought to defeat the enemy using the moment of surprise. They attacked with lightning speed, trying to converge side by side, board the enemy, if they failed, they quickly retreated, scattering across the sea and trying to elude pursuit. In 907, Oleg with a squadron on boats marched to Constantinople, fought and concluded a peace treaty between Byzantium and Russia.
