A handwritten sketch by Honored Artist of the RSFSR Vladimir Galba

Vladimir Galba is a Soviet cartoonist and graphic artist, Honored Artist of the RSFSR and illustrator of literary works, a master of political caricature, who received the unofficial status of "personal enemy of Adolf Hitler."

Through his cartoons, Vladimir Galba often ridiculed the ideology of militarization, the desire of states and certain individuals for power and political domination.

The plot of this sketch is one of the examples of the artist's satirical comments. Sprawled above the skyscrapers, an elephant sits in a “US” helmet, holding two animal leashes in the guise of rockets with its trunk. Originally, the elephant is considered the emblem of the Republican Party, it symbolizes the party's commitment to conservative views. However, here he is represented in the image of the state.: Its size and dominant position hint at the power and influence of the United States.

The elephant has two animals on a leash that look like donkeys. Donkeys are the emblem of the Democrats, they represent stubborn overcoming of obstacles and endurance.

What is noteworthy is that despite the fact that each party has its own symbolizing animal, they are depicted identically in the drawing. This reveals the idea that, although there are contradictions between the parties, both are subject to the influence or control of more powerful forces representing the state and certain elites. Thus, the cartoon reflects the unity and control that the United States retains over its domestic and foreign policy.
