Damon Albarn is a British musician, known primarily as the frontman of the band Blur, as well as as the founder and one of the main participants in Gorillaz projects. In 1998, Albarn, in collaboration with comic book artist Jamie Hewlett, created a virtual Gorillaz group consisting of four drawn characters. Albarn does not try to hide his identity when working on Gorillaz, despite the completely virtual performance, but he has used anagrams of his name several times in various musical projects — Dan Abnormal and Norman Balda. The first version of the name can be seen in the title of the Blur song on the 1995 album The Great Escape, and the second on the Elastica album of the same name, for which Albarn helped record the keyboard parts.
