Sergei Mikhalkov is a Soviet and Russian writer, poet, playwright and publicist, screenwriter and fabulist. He is the author of two anthems – the USSR and Russia. But Mikhalkov's works for children brought him the greatest fame.
Mikhalkov himself did not immediately realize that he had created a work that would become his calling card for many years to come. But the most famous authors of children's literature, Samuel Marshak and Korney Chukovsky, immediately predicted the brilliant literary fate of the giant. This story was born after Mikhalkov's trip to a children's camp as a pioneer leader: conversations around the campfire, children's games, jokes and the very style of communication helped the author understand which hero modern children might like. Uncle Stepa became so fond of readers that he grew up with the country – the children repeatedly asked Mikhalkov to write a sequel. In 1954, the second part of the poem was published – "Uncle Stepa is a policeman", and in 1968 – "Uncle Stepa and Egor" about how Uncle Stepa married and raised his son, and in 1981 the final part was published – "Uncle Stepa is a veteran".
